How to Choose Pots that are Suitable for Outdoors?

Not all outdoor flowerpots fit into the fashionable concept of a “low-maintenance garden.”

Every year, with the first thawed patches, the thought comes to us: “Shouldn’t we put a beautiful flowerpot on the porch of the house, terrace or garden?” In March, people usually think that it is early, but when the summer season begins, there is no time. And yet, experts insist: evaluate the benefits of using outdoor pots and choose the appropriate models.

Why do we need outdoor flower pots?

They place accents in the summer area and decorate the garden in winter. With flowerpots, even a tiny sized area will look inspiring. Another argument in favour of outdoor planters is that they make it easy to organize additional landscaping in difficult, including walk-through areas, where there is no land at all, only asphalt or paving.

Material selection

It’s not enough to just buy a huge flowerpot—you need an outdoor one. The difference is in the materials, and a gigantic one.

Outdoor flowerpots are a priori made from materials that are ready for use outdoors, regardless of the climate zone. Of course, outdoor flower pots are made not only from terracotta. What should you consider when choosing the material for an outdoor planter, if, for example, there are many options on the getpotted.com?

3D plastic

Topping the list are tall plant pots made of 3D plastic (or 3D plastic). These are the only outdoor flowerpots that can be left outdoors all year round without any “buts”. Other materials can be used only with reservations. So, if you are looking for an “indestructible” and all-season outdoor planter, this is your option.

What’s the secret? 3D plastic is an especially durable material that is resistant to mechanical damage, frost, heat, temperature fluctuations and does not fade in the sun. Bought, installed and forgotten.

Technologies allow us to make both laconic models in bright glossy shades, as well as classic flowerpots, amphorae “like terracotta” or “like copper” with traces of oxidation and traditional decor. Such pots can imitate almost any “classic” material.

Fiberglass

This is the name of a class of modern materials that have recently appeared on the market for outdoor planters. Its composition is fiberglass with the addition of stone chips, resins and other components. Different manufacturers have different technologies and percentages of ingredients, but this does not affect the technical characteristics: fiberglass flowerpots are not afraid of the vagaries of the weather.

Give preference to matte collections “like stone” or with imitation clay texture. Glossy coatings in areas near trees, pebbles, and equipment may be scratched. And the fashionable platinum fiberglass collections of flowerpots are positioned exclusively for interior use – it is better not to take them out of the house.

Clay

Outdoor flower pots are made from durable and frost-resistant types of clay with a specific composition.

Don’t be afraid that efflorescence will appear on your terracotta flowerpot in the spring. This kind of trouble happens with red factory-made terracotta in the interior – street clay is not susceptible to efflorescence. Of course, over the years it will change its appearance. But it will be a noble, refined old age, and not an annoying embarrassment.
